Owner, MVP Insurance
Ohio personal insurance for Mahoning Valley families works best when one local agent handles your home, car, renters, motorcycle, boat, and life coverage together. MVP Insurance, an independent agency in New Springfield, compares policies from multiple carriers. That way you see real options side by side instead of one company's price.
Most people in Columbiana and Mahoning counties never think about their policies until something goes wrong: a hailstorm, a deer on Route 165, a basement that floods during the spring thaw. That is the moment you find out whether your coverage was built for your life or just pulled off a shelf. The pages linked below go deeper on each type of coverage, and this page ties them together.
Ohio Personal Insurance Solutions for Mahoning Valley Residents
MVP Insurance is a 100% independent agency, which means we work for you rather than for any single insurance carrier. Josh Medure and David Varrati founded the agency in 2008. Our local office sits at 13823 Grant St, New Springfield, OH 44443, close to the families we insure in Springfield Township, Canfield, Columbiana, and the surrounding area.
Independent agencies have become the way most Americans buy coverage. These agencies now place 62% of all property and casualty insurance in the U.S., largely because people want choice. A captive agent can only show you one company's products. We shop several carriers and bring you the options worth considering.
This page serves as the hub for our Ohio personal lines. From here you can reach detailed pages on homeowners and auto coverage. You can also get a feel for how we handle motorcycles, boats, renters, and life insurance. We use modern tools to make policy management easier, and our claims support is available 24/7, so a Saturday-night fender bender doesn't mean waiting until Monday.

Umbrella
An umbrella policy adds liability protection above the limits on your home and auto policies. One serious accident can cost more than those limits, and the umbrella is what stands between the claim and your savings.
Protecting Your Assets with Homeowners and Renters Insurance
Your home is probably worth more today than when you insured it. That is the main reason Mahoning Valley homeowners end up underinsured. Mahoning County home prices rose 14.2% year-over-year to a median sale price of $206,000as of September 2026. Rebuilding costs often climb even faster than sale prices.
Premiums have moved too. Statewide, the average annual cost to insure a $300,000 dwelling in Ohio ran roughly $2,049 to $2,118 as of August 2026. Rates rose about 4.6% between November 2025 and August 2026. Those are averages, though. Your roof age, claims history, and deductible choice can move your number significantly.
This is where an independent agent earns their keep. We compare multiple carriers for your property and look for differences that never show up in a price quote:
- Water backup coverage:Standard policies usually exclude sump pump failures, a frequent and costly claim in older Valley basements.
- Roof settlement terms: Some carriers pay actual cash value on older roofs, which can leave you short after wind damage.
- Replacement cost on contents: Without it, a 6-year-old TV gets paid at a fraction of its replacement price.
Renters need protection too. A renters policy covers your belongings and personal liability, and it often costs less per month than a streaming bundle. Landlords' insurance protects their building, not your stuff. Our Ohio homeowners insurance pagewalks through coverage options in more detail.

Where you live
Your ZIP code sets the base for both home and auto: weather patterns, repair costs, traffic density and local claim history all feed into it. Distance to a fire station and hydrant matters for the home policy.

Car, Motorcycle, and Boat Coverage for Ohio Drivers
Ohio requires liability insurance on cars and motorcycles. In our experience, though, the state minimum is rarely enough. Ohio's financial responsibility limits are 25/50/25. That means $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage. A single ER visit plus a totaled late-model SUV can blow through those numbers fast.
Motorcycles follow the same rule. Motorcycle insurance in Ohio is mandatory at the same 25/50/25 limits. Boats are different. The state doesn't impose a general liability requirement on recreational watercraft. However, lenders and some marinas or lakes may require coverage.
| Vehicle | Ohio Minimum Liability | Limits Many Agents Suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Car | 25/50/25 | 100/300/100 or higher |
| Motorcycle | 25/50/25 | 100/300/100, plus guest passenger coverage |
| Boat/Watercraft | No general state requirement | $300,000+ liability; check lender and marina rules |
The suggested limits above reflect common agent guidance, not legal requirements. Your right number depends on your assets and household. One gap we see often is drivers carrying high liability but skipping uninsured motorist coverage. If you're hit by someone with no insurance, that coverage is what pays your bills. Our Ohio car insurance guidebreaks down each coverage piece.

The Role of Umbrella and Life Insurance in a Comprehensive Plan
Securing Your Family Future with Life Insurance
Life insurance replaces your income if you die, so your family can keep the house, pay debts, and fund what comes next. At our New Springfield office, most conversations start with one question: how long does your family need protection? Your answer usually points to term or permanent coverage.
Term life covers a set period, typically 10, 20, or 30 years. It fits well when you need protection through a mortgage or until the kids finish school. It costs much less per dollar of coverage, so young families can buy a meaningful death benefit. Permanent life, such as whole life, lasts your entire lifetime and builds cash value. People often use it for estate planning, final expenses, or leaving a guaranteed amount to heirs.
A common mistake is relying only on group life insurance through work. That coverage usually equals one or two times your salary, and it often ends when you leave the job. We help you look at your mortgage balance, income, debts, and future costs like college. Then we compare carriers so the policy fits both your budget and your long-term goals. Some families combine the two: a large term policy for the busy years, and a smaller permanent policy that never expires.

Common Questions About Ohio Personal Insurance
Can I bundle home and auto insurance in Ohio? Yes. Most carriers offer a lower combined rate when you insure your home and vehicles together. We compare bundled and separate options, because bundling isn't always the lower-cost choice.
What's the difference between an independent agent and a captive agent? A captive agent sells one company's policies. An independent agent like MVP Insurance shops multiple carriers for you and works on your behalf, not the insurer's.
Do I need insurance on my motorcycle if I only ride in summer? Yes. Ohio requires motorcycle liability coverage. Ask about adjusting comprehensive-only coverage during winter storage instead of canceling the policy.
Who do I call when I need to file a claim? Call us. Our claims support runs 24/7, and having a local agent in your corner means someone helps you understand the process and follows up with the carrier.
Does homeowners insurance cover flooding? No, standard policies exclude flood damage. Flood coverage requires a separate policy, and water backup from a sump pump needs its own endorsement.
Is renters insurance worth it if I don't own much? Usually, yes. Replacing clothes, furniture, and electronics adds up quickly. The liability coverage also protects you if a guest is injured in your apartment.

Two friends who started an agency
Owner
Joshua Medure
I am a Penn State marketing graduate with more than ten years in insurance. My childhood friend David and I started MVP Insurance in Northeast Ohio because we wanted the people around us to have an agency that gives honest advice, real choices and someone who picks up the phone. I lead the agency’s insurance strategy, which means I read the policies so our clients do not have to. Away from the office, I coach youth football.
